OUR STORY

Why a Towel

Of all the things in a home, the towel is the one you meet with your eyes closed.
We thought that deserved more attention than it gets.

Most towels are bought once and resented for years. Too thin, or too stiff, or soft for a fortnight and then never again. They are sold on thread counts nobody can verify and photographed in bathrooms nobody lives in. We started Bamboowls because we could not find one we actually liked.

The brief was deliberately back-to-basics. One towel. Thick enough to feel like something. Absorbent enough to work on the first pass rather than the third. Soft in a way that survives the washing machine. And made from a renewable, earth-friendly fibre that does not cost more than it gives back.

We were not trying to reinvent the towel. We were trying to make the one we kept describing to each other and could never buy.

Bamboo answered most of it. Spun with a share of long-staple cotton for structure and washability, it produces a cloth that is denser than cotton alone at the same weight, dries faster, and gets softer with use instead of thinner. The blend we settled on — 70% bamboo, 30% cotton — took longer to arrive at than anything else about the product.

Slow looms, small batches

A zero-twist yarn is a slower, more expensive way to make a towel. The fibres are left untwisted so more of each loop touches your skin, which is what produces that particular softness — and which is exactly why most manufacturers avoid it.

We weave in small runs and accept the inefficiency. It means we launch fewer colours and restock less often than we would like. It also means every towel that leaves us is one we would keep.

THE DETAIL

For those who notice

Double-turned hems, so the edge holds its line rather than curling after a season. A hanging loop stitched to take the weight of a wet towel. Selvedge that stays flat. None of it is visible from across the room, which is rather the point.

Luxury, to us, is not ornament. It is natural living with the small daily irritations removed.
